Preliminary Lyric Ideas

As we were filming our music video in a setting that wasn't close to school and were having to travel there, it was important that we were organised and knew all the shots that we needed to shoot on the day as there would be no going back to film extra shots. To ensure this we wrote down all of our shot ideas among the lyrics of our chosen song so that we would not have any parts of the song with no matching clip when it came to editing.

Preliminary Planning

For our preliminary task we had to create a short music video for a popular song; for this task I was working in a group of four consisting of: Me, Matthew Jones, Mitchell Ward, & Kieran Hill.

Song & Setting
The song we decided to plan and create our music video to was the
popular hit 'I get around' by 'The Beech Boys' we decided that we where going to film our music preliminary in Skegness which is a popular and traditional British holiday destination; we chose this setting as we felt that it would fit in very well with our up beat song.

The style in which we decided to plan and create our music video in was illustration by using footage that narrates the lyrics; however we decided to add in a twist to make our video catchy and added an act of comedy to each of our small sketches based on the lyrics.

Props & Costume

In order to relate to the identity that 'The Beech Boys' had by all wearing the same eye catching shirts, we decided to adopt this idea but manipulate it to relate to the comedy side of our video and purchased hula skirts for each main cast member: Dan Harris, Kieran Hill, Matthew Jones, & Mitchell Ward.

Other props and costume included:
  • Inflatable shark - to feature in the video relating to the lyric 'the bad guys know us and they leave us alone.'
  • Loaf of bread - to feature in the video on the lyric 'Im making real good bread'
  • Cool Box - to feature on the lyric 'Im a real cool head'
  • Sunglasses - to give a 'holiday look' to the video
  • Guitar - to mimic playing the guitar riff in the song
  • Bucket & Spade - to give 'holiday look'

Equipment Needed
  • Camera - Cannon EOS 650D
  • Portable iPod dock - to play the song while filming to ensure lip syncing was accurate to the track
  • Tripod

Laura, Shannon & Ronnie - This Is War - 30 Seconds To Mars

  • Reflects real life - Polititions, war, etc.
Story: The story is all about fighting and beliefs  within fighting. At the end of the song they imply that the soldier doesnt believe in war and fighting yet he still fights for what he believes even though it might not end up the way he wants it to. They are fighting on the spur of the moment when anything is possible.

Quote: 'If we dont end war, ware will end us': Has a big impact and meaning to life itself and most people can relate to the quote.

Gives reality of what it is like being on the fighting frontline with relation to the lyrics such as the shouting of 'TO FIGHT, TO FIGHT, TO FIGHT'. Lyrics are very catchy and help to tell the story as they go into the frontline with the increasing tension and then as they fall back to safety.

Interpretation Of The Video: Time lapse videos of the world deteriating and the impacts.

Links Between The Lyrics & Video: This is an illustration video and takes ideas from the lyrics in its video composition

Location:  The location is conventional however position of camer is unconventiona. This is because camers and recording equipment can be seen when recording.

Clothing: Clothing is unconventional as they are in casual clothing.

Performance Aspect: Towards the end of the video, there are several clips of the band playing live which brings back a more conventional aspect and will help promote the bands gigs.

Editing: At the start of the video editing is cut to the beat exactly.
